Doorstop at Sydney Children’s Hospital - NSW

A great day for families, for children, science, medicine, for the big hearts and big brains we’re supporting here. We’re able to support the great scientific work done here at the Children’s Cancer Institute, at the Sydney Children’s Hospital and around the country because we have a strong economy. Ensuring we continue to have a strong economy, delivering on our national economic plan, enables us to raise the revenues to provide the support of the kind we’re doing today. That’s what enables us to have great hospitals. That’s what enables us to have great research.

Leaders Debate at the National Press Club, Canberra

Will you please put your hands together for the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.  My name is Chris Uhlmann ABC’s political editor. I’m joined this evening by some distinguished colleagues from the Press Gallery; Laura Tingle from The Australian Financial Review, Andrew Probyn from the West Australian and Ellen Whinnett from the Herald Sun. Our time keeper is Hannah Porter. Gentlemen the only thing you need to remember is when you hear a bell you have 15 seconds to conclude whatever it is that you are saying. Time is short. We will not waste it. Bill Shorten has won the toss and elected that the Prime Minister should open the batting.

Doorstop at Headspace, Bondi Junction

This is a great service. It’s a great concept and I’m really proud to open it. This is the type of innovative frontline work in mental health that is so transformative. It’s the deinstitutionalisation of mental health services and of course, the next stage, which some of you may have talked about with Isa and Emma in particular, is the use of digital applications - smartphone apps- that enable young people to seek help and do so in a much more private, more intimate way, even than coming to a very non-judgemental, non-clinicy place like this.

Interview with Alan Jones, 2GB

Well Alan it’s a very clear choice at the election. We are presenting a national economic plan, every element of which will promote economic growth and jobs. We are optimists, we are confident. We know Australia can succeed better than it ever has before, but we need a clear economic plan. Now on the other hand you’ve got Labor which is offering higher taxes, bigger debt and deficits. There is nothing, not one element, in what they have proposed that will add jobs or drive economic growth. In fact it will do the opposite. They are actually increasing taxes on investment. You increase taxes on investment, what do you get? Less investment. Less investment, less jobs. What we are doing is the opposite, we’re promoting growth and promoting jobs. That’s the future.

We have talked today about the importance of innovation, the importance of exports. We have talked about the importance of backing businesses with the enterprise tax cuts.
