Woollahra Citizenship Ceremony

Published on: January 28, 2010

Last night I attended the Woollahra 2010 Citizen of the Year Awards and Citizenship Ceremony. Along with welcoming many new citizens as they took their oath, each year Woollahra Council recognises and honours residents who have demonstrated excellent citizenship and contribution to the wider community.

Mr Donald Ritchie and Mary Ritchie of Watsons Bay were named Citizen of the Year for their brave and inspirational work in saving so many people from suiciding at The Gap.

Mrs Orbell Conwell, President of the Eastern Suburbs Legacy Widows’ Club, became Senior Citizen of the Year for her tireless work for Legacy and especially the War Widows’ Club.

The winner of the Young Citizen of the Year is Hermione Joye, a dedicated volunteer and convenor of the “Lunch for Life” committee. Hermione led the fundraising and sponsorship drive for prizes for a fund raising event for 300 people this year in aid of the Chris O’Brien Cancer Centre.

With such outstanding individuals as these it makes me very proud to be Member for Wentworth. Congratulations to all winners and nominees, and a warm welcome to our newest citizens.
