Waverley Council Citizenship Ceremony

Published on: January 27, 2010

Yesterday I had the pleasure of celebrating Australia Day with a record 100 new Australians who took the oath to become citizens at Waverley Municipal Council’s Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony.

Australia Day provides an excellent opportunity to become a new citizen and I was honoured to share this special occasion with Wentworth’s newest Australians.

It was heartening to see such a large group of immigrants from all around the world having made the important decision to formally become a part of this great nation.

I was also honoured to meet Julie Iles, the Australia Day Ambassador for Waverley Council. The Australia Day Ambassador Program sends high achieving Australians to community Australia Day celebrations all over NSW. Julie competed at the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games, and her message to our new citizens truly captured the spirit of our national day of celebration and the pride we have in being Australian.

I hope you all had a wonderful Australia Day. You can read my Australia Day message here.

I would like to thank Cr. Sally Betts, Mayor of Waverley Council, for hosting the Citizenship Ceremony.
